Artist of the Month: Barb Linder

Barb Linder was born in Western, NE, a small town southwest of Lincoln. Her mother was an elementary teacher/artist, so from her beginning she was exposed to art. Original art hung on the walls, and pencils and paper, pastels and watercolors were always available for “expression. With the untimely death of her parents when she was a teenager, she chose a “business teacher” course of study at UNL (with a few art classes for extra credits).

After moving to Plattsmouth, marrying and having 4 children, she eventually was able to return to art. As the kids were growing up she found brief moments to study the Decorative Arts, especially the folk arts of the different countries – Penn. Dutch of U.S., Rosemahling of Norway, Canal Painting of Germany etc. For many years she taught adult education oil canvas painting in Plattsmouth and surrounding areas. She studied with Yvonne Eymann for 7 years which gave her a broad spectrum of the arts.

After joining the BAA in the l970’s she seed in several capacities (Pres., etc.) and became the Art Workshop Chairperson for l2 years. Being a teacher she feels that workshops and classes are essential for growth. (As Claude Croney told us, it takes 2 life times to learn what you should know about art.)

After taking a workshop with Hugh Walkinshaw, she found watercolor as her favorite medium (but on occasion returns to oils and pastels). Her favorite subject matter is whatever is current, flowers in Spring, colored trees in Autumn, snowy landscapes in Winter, scenic views from trips to Europe and out-of-the -way places, with portraits intermixed.

Barb, in contemplation, says “The Art World is a wonderful world, full of excitement, full of pleasures and wonderful people to meet. An artist can live life to its fullest. Always keep learning.”
